Welcome to the The Stroke of Midnight walkthrough on Gamezebo. The Stroke of Midnight is a hidden object adventure game played on the PC created by Namco. This walkthrough includes tips and tricks, helpful hints, and a strategy guide for how to complete The Stroke of Midnight.
General TipsAll options, such as sound levels, can be accessed from the game's main menu.
'Story' is an option that can be accessed from the main menu. It will allow you to revisit your progress through the game in story-form. At the end of the game, it will become a full novel, recounting the events of the game.
During main gameplay, the only button that will actually appear on screen is located in the upper right corner: this will allow you to access the main menu again, or give you the option to save and exit your game.
In each area, your journal will follow you. It will appear in different locations depending on the room, however it always comes in the form of a red book. Click on it to recount your adventure and look for additional hints.
In each area, you'll also find a mirror which will supply you with hints to the task at hand: if at any point you don't understand the riddle-like wording, you can click on the mirror and it will reword the task in simpler terms.
Areas are often larger than how they initially appear: make sure to move the mouse all around to get a full view of your current location.
There is no hint button in normal gameplay, and no hint button for hidden object areas. However, if you have difficulty finding an item in a hidden object area, simply click on the name of the item and a circle will appear around the object, showing you its location.
Excessive clicking will result in temporary loss of control of the cursor.
Items listed in hidden object areas are randomized: however, a consistent key item is always present upon finding all the items on the first list. These key items are circled and shown in the guide below.
The following walkthrough is divided into chapters according to the 'Story', and how it names and divides them.
Prologue: The Lone GraveCastle Entrance
SpaceGodzilla: Play as a Mutant and obtain four Power Surges and beat'Tyrant' at the end of the game. SpaceGodzilla will be added to the shop and willcost 100,000. Turn to the left. Cross the stones to the Cemetery.
Cemetery
Take a look at the gravestone: only a name is visible, and nearby grows a single rose-hip.
Take a closer look at the shimmering area over the log to enter a hidden object area.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Scarf, to complete the area.
Use the Scarf on the stone engraving to the right to clean it. 
Castle Entrance
Enter the castle via the front doors. Once at the doors, click for a closer view.
Solve the puzzle and open the door by clicking on the various triangle tiles on the left to recreate the monogram you saw in the Cemetery. The solution is shown below:
Lobby
Take a look at the stairs on the left: it's the only way forward, but a nasty hole in the floor is blocking your way.
Look to the right: pick up the board (stick) to move the boulder aside and collect the board from underneath.
Return your sights to the left: use the board on the gap to create a safe passage across and proceed up the stairs.
Hallway
In front of you is a nasty set of cobwebs, and on the floor is a fallen painting. With nothing to do in this immediate area at the moment, proceed around the corner to the right.
Take a look at the door: naturally, it's locked. Use the tassel hanging from the doorknob to loosen the key on the right, then use it on the door to open it and gain entry.
Chapter 1: The Stroke of MidnightBedroom
Take a closer look at the dresser to the right of the bed.
Try to open the top drawer: it's jammed. Use the letter opener on the top of the dresser to free the drawer.
Click on the torn pieces of paper inside the drawer to enter a puzzle.
Reassemble the torn letters: there are two separate sheets. However, upon piecing the letters back together, you'll notice some pieces are still missing.
Find the five paper pieces scattered throughout the room: their locations are shown below:
Return to the dresser and place the rest of the pieces in their proper locations to complete the letters.
Turn to the left and take a closer look at the locked box on the windowsill.
Find the three missing circles the box requires to open: their locations are shown below:
Restore the circles to the locked box, then rotate them so the following pattern becomes visible:
Collect the rose-hip inside the box.
Follow the ghost out the door to the right.
Chapter 2: The Empty HallHallway
Notice the cobwebs have now been cleared from the hallway. Pick up the ring handle on the left hanging from the torch, and use it on the chain hanging from the ceiling.
Click on the reassembled pull-chain to move the horse statue further down the hall back into its proper position.
Proceed down the hall to enter the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Feather duster, to complete the area.
Take a closer look at the paintings on the right wall, about halfway down the hallway.
Use the Feather duster to clear the cobwebs from the paintings.
Place the paintings back into their correct locations. The correct locations are shown below:
(Note: 'Dimitru, The Father' is the colorful painting of the man with the brown coat)
Once you've completed this task, pick up the will of Dimitru, Vlad's father, which is lying on the table to the left.
Follow Vlad's ghost down the hallway and into the next area.
Chapter 3: 'Ball Night'Ballroom
Notice the strange glowing clock-like design on the floor below the mirror: click on the 'XII' numeral to activate it.
Pick up the five pieces needed to restore the harpsichord: their locations are shown below:
Once you've collected everything, take a closer look at the harpsichord.
Use the items in their correct locations to restore the harpsichord to working order: their locations are shown below:
Tune the strings by turning the tuning knobs within the harpsichord to their proper positions according to the picture on the instructions. The solution is shown below:
Chapter 4: 'Why do ghosts cry?'Greenhouse
Click on the tree limb blocking the staircase: you'll have to remove it in order to proceed further.
Take a closer look at the box lying on the table.
Get the ball from one end of the puzzle to the other by choosing the correct path and using the arrows on all sides of the box, without letting the ball fall into a red hole. The correct path is shown below:

Use the brush on the darkened light to restore it and reveal a hidden object area over the bench.
Click on the hidden object area.

Use the Garden saw on the fallen tree branch blocking the staircase to remove it and proceed up the stairs.
Chapter 5: 'Deal'War Room

Try and open the case on the table containing the glasses: it's locked. Notice the stuffed dog on the right has a key in its mouth.
Pick up the bone on the table, and give it to the dog on the right to obtain the key. Use the key to open the box containing the glasses.
Pick up the bottle of wine and use it to pour wine into each of the two glasses.

Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Wisk Broom, to complete the area.
Use the Wisk Broom on the cobweb-covered display on the right to clear it of all the webs.
In the middle of the room, click on the chest to move it aside and collect the painting, hanging it above the display on the right.
Now, there are three missing pieces of armor you must collect before your can reassemble the display.
The first piece: On the left side of the room, use the bucket of water on the fireplace to douse the fire, then use the prod to retrieve the armor piece inside.
The second piece: This one's located on the left side of the room, near the fireplace.
The third piece: The third and final piece you need to collect is on the left side of the room. Look up and you'll find it within a wolf's mouth.
Now that you've found the missing pieces, take a closer look at the display on the right.
Reassemble the armor/ancestor display according to the painting hanging above: you may need to swap armor pieces on some of the skeletons. The solution is shown below:
Upon completing this puzzle, a door will open. Proceed back to the Greenhouse.
Chapter 6: 'Rose-hip flower'Greenhouse
Take a closer look at the hidden object area over the bench with the crying ghost.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Portrait, to complete the area.
Proceed through the door on the right.
Chapter 7: 'Midnight rendezvous'Dining Room
Click on the wedding cake to trigger the appearance of the ghosts.
Use the handkerchief on the ghost of the woman on the far left.
Use the bridesmaid corsage on Eva, the remaining ghost on the left.
Use the wine on Dimitru, the ghost with the spectacles.
Use the bride and groom figures on the bride and groom respectively.
Take a closer look at the note that appears on the table, rotating and folding it until the secret message appears:
Follow Vlad through the door into the next area.
Chapter 8: 'Explosion'Corridor
An explosion will rock the corridor. On the right is a fire, and on the left is a large water keg. However, the keg's water cannot be accessed just yet.
Pick up the knob on the right side of the screen.
On the left side of the screen, pick up the bucket and place it beneath the keg. Use the knob on the keg to empty water into the bucket.
Use the bucket of water on the fire on the right to extinguish the flames.
Pick up the shovel and use it to clear the rubble.
Read the sign revealed after clearing the rubble to trigger the next sequence of events.
Chapter 9: 'Sorrow'Kitchen
First, pick up the handle and reattach it to the well in the middle of the room.

Try and open the case on the table containing the glasses: it's locked. Notice the stuffed dog on the right has a key in its mouth.
Pick up the bone on the table, and give it to the dog on the right to obtain the key. Use the key to open the box containing the glasses.

Use the bucket of water to fill the glass on the left and trigger the appearance of another ghost.

Turn into the left doorway of the hall, and take a look at the doors: the handles are missing.
Proceed down the corridor and enter the hidden object area.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Door handle, to complete the area.
Return to the doorway, using the Door handle to gain access. Enter the bedroom.
Lydia's Room
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Album page, to complete the area.
Chapter 11: 'Ghost in the mirror'Dining Room
Restore the items damaged by the blast in this room. Before this, however, take a closer look at the hidden object area in the fireplace.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Statue, to complete the area.
Place the Statue back in its proper location above the fireplace.
Replace the broken candles on the table. Their locations are shown below:
Pick up the broom and use it to clean the empty tile space on the floor, then place the tile back into its proper location.
Place the loose bouquet of flowers back into its vase. Their locations are shown below:
A door will open on the far left side of the room: enter it to proceed into the next area.
Chapter 12: 'Secret Path'Kitchen
Use the bucket of water at the well on the fire to the right to extinguish it.
Use the candle snuffer on the candles in the chandelier. Their locations are shown below:
Use the tongs on the oven to extract a coal, then use the coal on the candle on the right.
Use the candle on the painting to the left of the mirror to reveal a secret door.
Chapter 13: 'Gunpowder'Laboratory
Click on the ladder and relocate it to the pile of rubble next to the mirror to gain access to weight 1/3.
Collect the remaining two weights on the left side of the room. Their locations are shown below:
Click on the instruments on the left to enter a hidden object area.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Niter, to complete the area.
Pick up the scissors on the right and use it to cut the string on the cabinet next to the mirror. Open the cabinet to collect the sulfur inside.
Pick up the last ingredient, coal, which is lying on the floor on the left.
Take a closer look at the desk in the center of the room. Place a piece of coal in the right dish, and the 2 oz. weight in the left dish. You'll find 1 portion= 2 oz. When you've correctly weighed each ingredient, place them in the bowl on the right.
The following are the solutions for the portions you'll need of each ingredient:

Back on the main portion of the balcony, pick up the first core pattern lying on the floor, then enter the hidden object area over the railing.

Place the core patterns into their proper locations, then choose the correct door (Rose-hip). The solution is shown below:
Chapter 15: 'Unexpected Secrets'Library
Click on the ladder on the right side of the screen and move it into position under the star-shaped key. Click on the star to collect it, then use it to open the drawer with the star-shaped lock and enter the hidden object area inside.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Code board, to complete the area.
Open the middle drawer in the desk to uncover a candle holder.
Pick up the candle lying on the floor. Use it on the lamp on the right to light it, then place it in the candle holder on the armrest.
Take a closer look at the bookshelf on the left. Click on the books in the correct order according to the code board to reveal a hidden door. The solution is shown below:
Chapter 16: 'Dead or Alive'Hidden Room
Find the five traces of blood scattered throughout the room. Their locations are shown below (Note: click on the globe to rotate it and reveal the hand print if necessary):

Chapter 17: 'Medicine'Library
Take a closer look at the open book lying on the desk towards the bottom of the screen: page 13 is torn up and pieces are missing.
Collect the missing page pieces strewn throughout the library: their locations are shown below (Note: use the ladder to gain access to the high and out of reach pieces).
Click on the hidden object area located inside the drawer with the star insignia to enter.

Use the Clippers on the rose-hips to cross them from your list, then take a closer look at the book on the right to check what peppermint looks like. After you learn what it looks like, click on the microscope sitting nearby to enter a puzzle.

Dining Room
In this room, collect sugar, water, and wine. Collect the wine by picking up the jug on the floor and using it on the wine barrel; collect the sugar by using the tongs on the sugar dish; collect the water by simply clicking on the glass of water. Their locations are shown below:
Click on the stones beneath the mirror for a closer look. Assemble them back into their proper positions: however, you'll find two are still missing.
Find the two missing pieces: one is under the table, and the other must be found via a hidden object area. Their locations are shown below, with the hidden object area being located in the fireplace.
Find the objects listed in the screen; objects are randomized. Once you've found these objects, find the Key Item, the Decorative floor tile, to complete the area.
Return to the floor tiles beneath the mirror. Place the missing tiles in their proper locations: the reassembled floor is shown below:

Pick up the remaining two balcony pieces and place them in their correct location, marked with an 'X'.

Chapter 20: 'Why, Eva?'Cemetery
Take a closer look at the log/tree roots on the right to enter a hidden object area.

Use the Pruning shears on the rose-hip, then place it in the vase at the base of the grave.
